Out of the predictable leisure 2022
Out of the predictable leisure, curato e prodotto da artQ13, nasce da un’idea Carlo Caloro.

Out of the predictable leisure 2022
Out of the predictable leisure, curated and produced by artQ13, is the brainchild of Carlo Caloro. The project includes one free lesson of recreational activity per week for cultural workers. The aim is to invest in the care of the body, instead of a new exhibition, to focus on the relationship between body, space and leisure.
artQ13 aims to offer a service to a sector that has been severely tested by the pandemic, in an attempt to reacquire and re-signify the spatiality of bodies that have been constrained for so long by quarantine measures. Alongside the lectures, either concurrently or separately, there will be a series of performances, focusing on the difference between the vision of physical activity as a moment of competition, competitiveness and at the same time an aesthetic celebration of the reified body, and the vision of bodily movement as a moment of play and leisure.
Weather permitting, the activity and performances will take place in isolated, specially prepared places that are separate from everyday life; if weather conditions do not allow for this, they will instead be held in indoor spaces, out of the predictable leisure.
Be it indoors or outdoors, the given space — such as public places or offices — will be transformed from a place of physical activity or work into a place of recreation and play by the group of participant-performers. Instead of striving for performance and the achievement of a goal, the sense of ‘lost’ time will be sought as a moment of bodily relaxation. The game and the movement of the body thus become a form of escapism, not perceived negatively as an inability to relate to reality, but rather as self-affirmation through entertainment and the rejection of the value of productivity as the only benchmark for human actions. Today, living equates to little more than producing: everything moves from the sphere of play to that of profession. Leisure thus becomes a means of affirming non-productivity as a virtue and replacing the profane seriousness of work with the seriousness of play, thus breaking the diktat of optimisation and performance.
The aim is to grasp the unexpected and the unpredictable, starting from an activity carried out in a familiar dimension, using the body through sequences of movements and exercises that are simple, frenetic or fluid, slow or fast, repeated and routine. In this way, an attempt will be made to redefine everyday experiences and physical activity through a re-appropriation of recreational time, the body and the space it inhabits.
Every piece of information we receive from the movement of the body is consumed and processed, to produce an unlimited flow of ideas and proposals. From this process, a kind of hybrid identity emerges, defined by everything that accompanies the act of making and making art using one's body, including the multiple roles played by the performer-participants and the artist.
Lessons will be held by qualified instructors outdoors, every Saturday at 11:00 a.m. near Circo Massimo, starting from Saturday 26 February 2022. In the event of poor weather conditions, the lessons will be held indoors.
